Life Lately & 2 Months!

Wow, has time flown!  I've been a terrible blogger...sorry!  My little Penelope has kept me so busy, but as of last week...she's started almost sleeping through the night which is AMAZING!  I say almost because she's been going 8 1/2 hours or so before her first feeding so hopefully she'll work it to 11 or 12 hours and then we'll be golden!

Oh, and best of all.....Penelope has started smiling!  She smiles at her toys, the tv, and me! I feel like I can actually interact with her which makes the days so much easier.  Staring at a newborn all day is tough, but now we can play and I'm very excited for her to grow even more!

I can't believe she's 2 months old already {well, as of Jan. 7th she was 2 months old}! I am very lucky....Penelope is such a good baby!  She really only gets fussy when she's hungry and in the evenings when she's tired so I know I've been blessed for sure!  I can only hope my future children are this well behaved.

Anyway, just thought I'd stop by to say a quick hello and give a quick update!  It's hard to find the time to blog while being a mother, wife, housekeeper, chef and oh yea...work a full time job! Inevitably one falls to the wayside and you can guess that the housekeeping is one of them.  I hate living in a messy home, but somehow I can never totally get it tidy and clean!

Until next time.... :)

Penelope's 1 Month Update!

I'm a day late here, but yesterday Penelope turned 1 month old!  I can't believe its been a month, yet at the same time, its been a long month!

Every time I see this fox stuffed animal I feel like saying, "What does the fox say?" LOL
The first 2 weeks after Penelope was born, my mom stayed with me so it was amazing to have her help!  I'm the youngest of 6 kids so I definitely welcomed her advice and know-how with open arms.  I thought 2 weeks sounded like a long time at first, but those 2 weeks flew by and when it was time for her to leave, I couldn't believe it!  I was sad but I thought...I got this. I can handle this!

Well, I think the hardest weeks were 2-3.  I was on my own for the first time with Penelope...all day.  I couldn't leave the house because she wasn't vaccinated yet {and still is not since she doesn't get those until she's 2 months old} so I was just inside the house with her 24/7.  And she started to become a fussy baby during the 3rd week.  She was great before that but all of a sudden she had some bad days where all she did was cry and those turned into bad nights where she kept me up until like 4am crying.

It was a hard adjustment needless to say, but I feel like I got through it!  I still feel like I'm "weathering the storm" since she's only 4 weeks old but I do feel better than I did last week.  I am very lucky that I do have an easy baby {as easy as a baby can be..} She likes her sleep and has only kept us up during the night a handful of times.  I find that she doesn't want to go to bed until late but once I get her asleep....she's good the rest of the night!  She'll wake up for feedings {going 4-6 hours in between them at night now} and she'll go right back to sleep.  I usually don't have to stay up rocking her which is great!

It was a challenge to learn how to keep her awake during the day because I think she was sleeping too much during the day--leading to her staying awake at night.  There's only so much you can do with a newborn to keep them entertained so we play on her playmat and I walk her around the house so she can look around but that's about all you can do.  I'm sooo looking forward to her becoming more interactive!

I've only left the house with her a few times when I've had to but I can't wait until I can take her out more!  I know I can, but I would just feel better if she was vaccinated before I really take her places.  So right now, I'm really chained to my house but whenever John is around or has a day off....I take advantage of that and go to the mall or do my grocery shopping then.  Getting out is key to staying sane for sure!

Oh, we also celebrated Penelope's first holiday and Thanksgiving during this month!  She wore her turkey onesie and basically slept the whole day but here are a couple photos:

Stay tuned for Penelope's newborn photos coming this week!  Hope you all had a great weekend!

Penelope's Birth Story

I cannot believe my sweet Penelope is already going to be 1 month old soon!  Where has the time gone? On the other hand, holy cow...this has been a LONG 1 month!  I knew having a baby was going to be tough, but I feel like until I actually had Penelope-I didn't actually know how tough it would be!  Everyone says it gets better around 6 weeks so I'm just looking towards that right now.  For now, here are the deets with how my labor went down...

On Wednesday, November 6th, I got woken up at 4:45AM by my husband's alarm.  Side note: I don't know why I started calling him Doc on here but I'm going to refer to him by his real name, John, from now on!  Normally his alarm doesn't wake me up, but for some reason it did on this day and once I was up, I realized I was feeling crampy.  I had what felt like mild menstrual cramps, but I wasn't sure if it was just Braxton Hicks contractions so I laid there and waited.  Well 2 hours later, I still could not fall back to sleep and was still having these pains so I decided to just get up and change what I was doing to see if that made the pains go away.  I had my breakfast and sat on the couch and still the pains did not go away so I called John and my mom to let them know what I was feeling.  My mom was like yup, sounds like its the beginnging of contractions! She said go shower and get what you need done now because I think you're having this baby today.

My mom's flight was scheduled for the next day {my due date}, but once she realized what was happening, she promptly changed it to come in that night.  My in-laws live 3 hours away so they had already planned on driving in that day, so I went about my day and prepared to have lunch with them. Once they arrived, John was able to get out of work so we all went to lunch.  At this point, the pains I was feeling had gone away for a couple hours but once we went to lunch, they came back.  They started to get a little stronger and felt like they were coming in waves but they weren't defined enough that I could time them {we tried but they were still too mild}

Around 4:45PM, the pains were definitely getting worse and it was at this point that I was like yea, ok...I'm going into labor!  I called my OB and she was like well, we're really looking for contractions that you can't talk through {which I obviously wasn't having yet} so she told me to go for a walk and call them back in an hour to let them know how I was feeling.  John and I put our coats on and walked around my neighborhood for the next hour.  By the end of our walk, I had to keep stopping every 5 minutes or so because a contraction would come and it was getting painful!  We called my OB back and she was still not totally convinced I was ready but since I live so close to the hospital, she told me to come in anyway and see if I had made any progress.

On Monday of this week, I was 4cm dilated and about 90-100% effaced already so I was sure I had made more progress.  Nope! When I got to the hospital, I went into triage and I was still only 4cm dilated.  My OB asked if I could walk around for another hour or two and then come back.  My contractions were painful at this point but not TOO painful that I couldnt walk around so I said yes, I'll do some walking.

John and I walked around the hospital for the next 45 minutes and let me tell you...I thought my contractions were painful BEFORE? Now they were so bad, I had my head buried into the walls of the hospital, crying....yea now I knew what the OB was talking about!  We headed back up to triage, and I had progressed to 5cm so they finally admitted me and the whole process really got started!

They offered me some pain medication that I promptly took, but it didn't seem to help much {it only made me feel loopy and giggly} so I got my epidural shortly after.  I had always planned to have an epidural so I wanted to make sure I got it before it got too late.  I don't know how some women do this without an epidural!

Once I got the epidural, I was feeling GREAT! I totally lost track of time at this point, but all of a sudden my mom and in laws walked in {which surprised me that they were already there...I thought it was way earlier in the night then it was} so we got to sit and spend some time with them before it was time to push.  Then, I got to pushing and I think I pushed for about 3 hours.  It felt like an eternity until Penelope's head came out.  I was sooooooo exhausted at this point because I had been up since 4:45am and it was around 3am now.  I pushed and pushed and pushed with everything I had and I was really surprised by how much pain I still felt with an epidural!  That was one thing I did not expect!  Penelope finally came out and it was amazing to see her little face on my chest.  She came out with the biggest cry ever and luckily was completely healthy!

In the end, my labor was about 8 1/2 hours which isn't too bad for a first time mom!  My poor mom and in-laws were so tired by the time Penelope was born, but they were troopers and stayed up!

I'll be back with an update on Penelope and how this first month has been!

Nursery Reveal!

Happy Monday everyone!

Well, I had my weekly doctor's appointment today and it looks like I'm 4cm dilated and 90-100% effaced now so I definitely made some progress from last week!  I tried to get the doctor to tell me when she thought I'd give birth, but she played it safe and was like it could it be a couple of hours....it could be a couple weeks.  YES-weeks? I was like no no...don't even talk to me about weeks here!  Lol sooo fingers crossed I have this baby in the next couple days!  With being so progressed, I would be surprised if a week goes by but who knows.

In the meantime, I thought I'd finally give you a treat and post my baby girl's nursery reveal!  You may recall this post from back in June--I was thinking I'd do her nursery in a pink and grey theme. I was all on track for that when I found a fabulous rug on RugsUSA.com during their July 4th sale.  It was 70% off and I couldn't take my eyes off of it and I knew that was it!  That was going to be the center of my inspiration for this room! The room is small so it was hard to take a lot of pictures in it.  Without further ado, here is her nursery:

Taken from the doorway

The card in the mirror is my baby shower invitation. I might frame it and hang it somewhere or just find a special place for it!

The reading corner. It looks so empty right now but we have more books coming from my mom and from my in-laws!

I wanted you to see the chandelier! I love this piece! It transforms the room.

Nursery source list:
Since I took these pictures, I made some small changes to the changing table.  I got a cute diaper caddy from Pottery Barn Kids and I now have all my things organized in there.  I've also added some more stuffed animals around the room.

I hope you like the nursery!  This is the first room I've done, top to bottom so I'm very excited about it!  I love pink so I couldn't resist using a lot of pink in her room but I tried not to make it super "baby-ish". I wanted the room to have a classy, glamorous feel to it and I think I accomplished that.  These pictures don't seem to do the room much justice but I can't invite you all over here to see it for yourselves! :)

Now, keep your fingers crossed and hope that the next time you hear from me....I will be announcing the arrival of my baby girl!

39 Weeks Baby Bump Update!

How far along? 39 weeks! Are we there yet?!

Baby is the size of? Still a watermelon {according to What to Expect When Your Expecting}.

Maternity clothes? I'm too far along to even answer this question right now lol! Can you tell based on my pic above I've given up on looking cute?

Stretch marks? None on my belly at all but I have a few minor ones on my boobs {they weren't ever supposed to be big LOL}. I'm Still using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Stretch Mark Lotion every night and I use regular body lotion every morning after my shower.

Labor Symptoms? I'm not having any Braxton Hicks contractions but still have some pubic bone pressure.  I'm 2cm dilated now but still about 50% effaced so I'm making progress!

Sleep? I've been getting soo hot at night, its been annoying and my nose has been congested which is also annoying when your trying to sleep! Still waking up one to two times a night to pee but other than that, I'm sleeping pretty well.

Best moment of the week? As I said above, I had my doctor's appointment earlier this week and I'm 2cm dilated now and still about 50% effaced so I'm making progress slowly but surely!  Its crazy that I'm 1 week away from my due date...I just HOPE I don't go past my due date! Fingers crossed she makes her arrival next week.  I have my next appointment on Monday so I'll find out if I'm still progressing or not.

Miss anything? Alcohol, fresh squeezed orange juice, sleeping on my stomach, bending over easily...

Movement? I got a little nervous this past weekend because I didn't feel her move very much.  I had to really poke her to get her to move but thankfully by Sunday night, she was moving up a storm so I think she was just sleeping!  Since then she's been moving around pretty regularly...sometimes it feels like she's doing pushups on my cervix lol

Food cravings? None.

Anything making you quesy or sick? Nope!

Have you started to show yet? Um, do I even need to answer this question? Lol

Baby is a? GIRL!

Belly button in or out? Its officially an outie now.

Wedding rings on or off? Off for now...I haven't been going out very much so I haven't had to put them on but my wedding band is still very tight when I try to put it on.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: Baby's arrival!  I'm trying not to get myself too anxious because I don't want to get frustrated every day when nothing happens but I'm getting so excited for her to be here and knowing its sooo soon and soo close is killing me!  Patience is not something I'm good at haha

By the way, I know I promised you a nursery reveal and then I never posted that so SORRY!  I added some new things to the nursery since I took the pics so I wanted to update them before I post the reveal.  I will get that posted soon, I promise! :)

1 year..

Just 1 year ago today, I said goodbye to my Dad.

Its hard to believe its been 1 year since he's left us.  It feels like just yesterday, but at the same time, an eternity since he's been here. So much has happened in this past year--so many changes for me and my family but I do believe he's right here with us watching it all happen.

My parents
An old Thanksgiving picture
Walking me down the aisle on my wedding day
My brother and my Dad
Today we remember you, for all the wonderful memories you've given us and for all the love you showed us.  I think about you every single day and I'm inspired each day to live my life in the positive way you always did.  Life is not the same without you here, but I know you're in a better place now. I love you.

38 Weeks Baby Bump Update!

How far along? 38 weeks! 2 to go...

Baby is the size of? Still a watermelon {according to What to Expect When Your Expecting}. I think my app has been off or something...

Maternity clothes? The weather has gotten pretty cold around here so when I'm not just sitting around the house in yoga pants, I'll wear my maternity jeans, maternity tanks or tees, and a cardigan sweater worn open.  I have some big loose sweaters but they won't fit over my bump--but I'm looking forward to getting back into those after the baby is born!

Stretch marks? None so far! Still using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Stretch Mark Lotion every night and I use regular body lotion every morning after my shower.

Symptoms? I've been having increasing pressure down low and my pubic bone has been hurting!  My OB said that can be due to them separating in preparation for labor...it also can be due to her head being low now too.  I haven't had any more Braxton Hicks contractions though.

Sleep? Still using my body pillow which helps me get into a comfortable position but its takes me like 5 minutes to roll over every night! Going from one side to the other is a mission! Lol I'm also still dreaming about being able to sleep on my stomach....

Best moment of the week? Well I had a doctor's appointment on Monday and had my first internal exam--looks like I'm 1cm dilated and 50% effaced already and the baby's head is very low {my OB could feel it} so she said for a first time mom, I'm farther along then she would have expected! I'm HOPING that means baby girl will make her appearance earlier than later! I have my next appointment this coming Monday so I'm interested to see if I've made any progress. I know some women can stay slightly dilated for weeks before they give birth so I'm not like expecting her to come early...I just hope that she does! :)

Miss anything? Alcohol, fresh squeezed orange juice, sleeping on my stomach, bending over easily...

Movement? Still feeling her alien-like movements all the time. She also still gets the hiccups all the time--I feel so bad for her.

Food cravings? None.

Anything making you quesy or sick? Nope!

Have you started to show yet? Um, do I even need to answer this question? Lol

Baby is a? GIRL!

Belly button in or out? Its officially an outie now.

Wedding rings on or off? Still wearing just my wedding band these days but that's definitely tight on me.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: Baby's arrival!

I FINALLY got the nursery all done so stay tuned for a nursery reveal this week!  Have a great weekend!

37 Weeks Baby Bump Update!

How far along? 37 weeks! Baby is considered "full term" now so anytime she's ready...we're ready!

Baby is the size of? A watermelon {according to What to Expect When Your Expecting}

Maternity clothes? Oh, I just wear whatever I can fit into nowadays! Lots of leggings and sweaters.

Stretch marks? None so far! Still using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Stretch Mark Lotion every night and I use regular body lotion every morning after my shower.

Symptoms? I did develop heart burn a couple weeks ago but it hasn't been much of a problem {thankfully!}, and I had a really bad nose bleed one night so I finally got a humidifier in our room and that has helped quite a bit.  I find I'm not as congested either which has been a pain when your trying to sleep!  Other than that, no new symptoms. If I'm having Braxton Hicks contractions, they're pretty mild because I can't really feel them.

Sleep? Sleep has been pretty good this week!  I still have a hard time falling asleep some nights but once I'm asleep, I'm out so I'm getting pretty solid sleep each night. Trying to soak in all the sleep I can get before baby girl gets here!

Best moment of the week? Hmm, there wasn't really anything in particular this week that stands out! I didn't have a doctor's appointment this week so nothing new on that front.  I guess I'm just excited that I've finally reached 37 weeks and from this point forward, baby girl can be born with little to none complications!

Miss anything? Alcohol and sleeping on my stomach!

Movement? She's gotten so big now that I feel every movement she makes.  She definitely has her feet in my right side because they stick out all the time now! Sometimes her jabs over there hurt but its fun to be able to feel her little feet pocking me!

Food cravings? None.

Anything making you quesy or sick? Nope!

Have you started to show yet? Yep....I'm quite large and its hard to believe I'll be getting even larger!

Baby is a? GIRL!

Belly button in or out? Its officially an outie now.

Wedding rings on or off? Still wearing just my wedding band these days but that's definitely tight on me.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: FINALLY finishing baby girl's nursery!  Doc is going to hang her curtains for me tomorrow and then I just need to purchase some picture frames and the nursery will be done!  Pictures to come very very soon :)

Have a great weekend!

36 Weeks Baby Bump Update!

How far along? 36 weeks! 4 weeks to go!

Baby is the size of? A watermelon {according to What to Expect When Your Expecting}

Symptoms? Again, still feeling well considering I'm 9 months pregnant now!  I still have energy each day, but I do find I get physically tired when I'm walking a lot or moving around a lot.  I think I'm also having Braxton Hicks contractions now, but its just now and then.

Sleep? Ugh, sleep has not been so great. I have the hardest time falling asleep each night and if I wake myself up enough to pee or when Doc goes to work, its over. I'll be wide awake. I guess its the body's way of preparing for what's about to happen but I hate this insomnia. I just find my brain starts going and going and I can't stop thinking about what I have to do before the baby gets here or just how anxious I am for her to be here! It's hard to quiet that all down.

Best moment of the week? I had my 36 week appointment yesterday and everything went well as usual. Baby girl is doing well...I can't believe we're getting down to the wire with my appointments!  At my next appointment they said they'll start doing my internal exams, so I'm not exactly looking forward to that but I am excited about getting closer to baby's arrival!

This past week, I went to a brunch at my friend's house and got to meet her other "mommy" friends and it was great just hanging out with group of women who are all at the same points in their lives as me. Almost all of them had babies and they were all doctor's wives, so I'm looking forward to getting to know them all better and having a great group to have play dates with! I hear its very important to have other mommy friends, just to have adult time and to lean on each other when life gets hard.

Miss anything? Alcohol and sleeping on my stomach!

Movement? She's still moving up a storm!  Very "rolly" movements, not too many jabs, just movement from one side of my belly to the other.  She still gets the hiccups practically every day!

I've only been wearing my wedding band because if I wear my engagement ring too, its way too tight! The wedding band is getting to be too tight now too so this week I wore a fake ring a few times.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: Continuing to check "to do" items off of my long list! Every day I'm trying to get things done around the house or set up the baby items that are in boxes. For instance, last night I finally got the pack n' play set up in our bedroom so now baby girl will have a place to sleep when we bring her home from the hospital.  I'm also trying to keep up with cleaning and laundry, so I just find every day I go from one task to another! But its all getting done and I'm honestly ready for baby girl to make her appearance whenever!  I'm definitely getting impatient, but I know she needs to stay in there at least another week because 37 weeks is considered "term".  BUT waiting is soooo hard! Haha

What are you all up to this weekend? Doc is working all weekend, so I'll probably be doing what I always do.....going to the mall or getting things done around the house. Have I mentioned how excited I am to buy normal people clothes again? Lol but I'm waiting because I want to make sure I fit into anything I buy and I just don't know what my body will be like after the baby.

Have a great weekend!
